Ringed plovers fake injury to draw predators away from their nests. The run away or sit pretending to have broken wings, holding them in wonky positions or flapping them feebly. This is called a distraction display.

Egyptian plovers also known as crocodile birds ride along on a crocodile and pick morsels from their teeth. The Crocodile allows them to safely stand inside their mouth without fear of being eaten.
